			To the child within


you’ve been growing inside me for just over 37 weeks
started as 2 small cells
			     (invisible, in the dark of my body)

and you grew and you grew through alien and lizard stages
a parasite feeding off my fat and muscle when i could not eat
				      when i was still scared to lose you in a wash of blood 
			when i was still scared to be as thrilled as i am at your presence

i’ve seen sound waves formatted into your picture
i’ve heard your heartbeat
		(and it sounds so beautiful)
i’ve felt you kick and wiggle and tumble in the playground that you have built from my uterus

i imagine what you will look like
	    what you will be like

i am ready to meet you and hold you in my arms
			         nourish you from my breast
			         and love you from my heart and soul

i am ready to watch you grow
