i want
a doctor who sees my body with intrigue
a case to be solved
not just a fat body to lose weight
i want someone who sees the whole
and wonders how it is connected
and notices that my hip bone is
         in fact
         connected to my knee bone
through tendons and tears and tears alike

i want
		apparently too much
	a sleuth to look at me with intrigue
		not just a woman with “womanly” problems
				to be
					
			ignored

why is that so much to ask

yeah
	i’m fat
yeah
	i’m woman
but my pain is real 
	and i want it solved
so my tears and tears 
	aren’t mine and mine alone

					any more

this is absolutely beautiful and very moving. i'm sorry you are experiencing this. i have had my own different issues with doctors not listening to me and it is so frustrating. i'm so glad you're back - i missed your awesome poetry.

Damned right! The medical community frustrates me too, although for me it's the blindness thing. I can definitely relate and sympathize.

And it shouldn't be too much. You need a better doctor. The hard part is usually finding one, but a doctor who dismisses you (because you are overweight, or female, or simply older) deserves to be fired. :(

I've had knee issues and kept avoiding the dr as it seems every answer is, "Just lose weight" which is so easier said than done.

Finally found out I have arthritis and my physiotherapist I was referred to has been so helpful. It's more than physical therapy, they are trying to stretch the parts around my knee which as leading to getting it pushed out of shape and swelling.

It's helped so much. I thought I was going to limp and have it swell the rest of my life but this is actually helping.

I hope you can find someone like that. There are answers.

I'll be getting a PRP Treatment to hold off surgery another year or two. But I found a much better ortho and my gp is... Ok.

This is the hard part about medical care- you always have to advocate HARD for yourself because the doctors have their own agenda, which is sad.

yeah.... it's annoying as fuck. i, also, have fibromyalgia. that's a fun one in the self-advocacy game.
