                          TOI,TOI, TOI


the children take the stage
all full of hope and innocence
finding home in their bodies
 the voices of others
my child amongst them
"there are no small parts"
         and that is what he wants
         		to fade into the background
         	singing and dancing townsperson
         			and he is splendid
        						each show
         								my heart stops to watch this child
        								 this young man
         they walk onto the stage and BECOME someone new
         								someone else
i'll be honest and say
        this is no oscar worthy performance on my child’s behalf
         no more emmys will enter our home
         his voice is that of an angel
 but maybe not grammy worthy
being a mother and poet is hard
         where does truth draw a line
         where does reality intercede in poetry
         where does it all end and begin
is this all simply a callback
 a coda
         a return to the beginning of the play
the children take the stage
my son amongst them
trying on new personas
learning new emotions
TOI, TOI, TOI
i am here for it

thank you. a palate cleanser after my Very Serious and Tough last poem. conveniently my kid was in a show (Frozen) that opened this week. I was come up empty until it hit my like, duh. :D

We tend to forget the people who really DON'T want the attention that performing gives them. And yet, it sounds as if he did a very good job in his less-exposed role!

exactly! we think of those who want to be stars. this particular troupe tends to put people on broadway or the such once a generation; mine is happy in his less exposed, less work role.

Absolutely! The only thing disappointing about my son participating in the Actor's Workshop, an after-school improv club, during middle school, was that the advisor, despite promises, never put together a showcase for the parents.

Well I'm a community theater veteran with over 35 stage credits.... If your kiddo keeps after it eventually he'll go from something a mother would love to something everybody loves... I promise
