bikes

so, we went and bought bikes for ian and i to replace the one he got stolen.

I haven't ridden a bicycle in years and i've never been any good at it. but, hey, maybe i'll get a sense of balance out of this. :)

we also got our bike licenses just after purchasing said bikes. we're all law following now on that measure.

Oooooh, what kind of bike did you get? :)

silver raleigh 14" something or other hybrid bike. i dunno. i got the one that if i crash i have a hope of not needing stitches in my vagina... i'm short. even the "women's" bikes with the lower bar are high for me.

Oh, god, what a horrible image.

In 20 years of crashing I'm pretty sure that's the one spot I haven't banged up while crashing (a long ride on an unfamiliar seat designed for men is a different story). If your butt stays planted to the seat, you should hit the ground and get scratched up before gravity has a chance to inflict any wounds in that direction.

this actually happened to a friend of mine when she was 12 or 13...

and you can't expect my ability to fall to stay within the confines of gravity and the such; i'm just that powerful at the impossible. :)

We need a license to ride a bike?

OK, I'm old and curmudgeonly now: I'm actually wishing for the carefree days of my youth.

(PS: Congrats on the new bikes! May you both enjoy them.)

You got your WHAT?

mountain view requires that you register you bikes, it cost $1, you get it at the fire station, and they put a sticker on your bike.

I'm a rule-breaker!

just so you know. bike license # is a Required Field on the bike theft report... thus we now know about htis and are not breaking the rules this time.

When my bike was stolen from the train station, I don't think they even asked about it.

interesting. oh well. it costs $1.00.

Yeah, it's not a big deal either way. Anyway, yay new bike! If you want company or recommendations for good biking routes, let me know. If you haven't seen this map, it's awfully handy.
