104°. (Ljidol wheel of chaos week 2)

                 104*

it's 104 degrees on my naked body
if it's any consolation
         they say
it's a dry heat
but 100 is a 100 is a 100
and heat is hot

a cool mist sprays fine water droplets
occasionally covering me

i read poolside
my kindle my friend
                                         amongst strangers
my husband my love
                                          amongst newness
how do you make friends at a nudist resort
and i wonder
         if i want to
we are here to be us
we are here to relax
we are not looking for the insundry
the un.... sanitary

not this time
not today

but it's a dry heat
                        (they say)
        and i wonder
         what fever dreams connect here
         i wonder
         if my skin reddens
         because it sees the sun
         or because eyes see me

if it's any consolation
         they say
it's a dry heat

        perhaps,
                              i won't get wet
                                                             after all

Lyrical and playful - I can feel the sun, the reddening, the apprehension, and the "fuck it, we're here." Really enjoyed this. Fantastic performance, too!

Thank goodness for comments, or the blind guy would've missed the robe aspect. (chuckle)

Now wait, they're at a nudist resort, and your character's reading their Kindle? Come on! If ever there was a time for people watching! LOL

I enjoyed this. To me, your character seemed overwhelmed, but at the same time pushing themself to have new experiences.

Such naked honesty is nice in a poem! Funny and relatable!

You have a very nice voice! I’d definitely get reddened from the eyes seeing me, I’m too body conscious.

Curious if you meant to infer the sexual aspect of “perhaps I won’t get wet,” or was that just me?

This was a lot of fun, especially the 104 degrees. We've been having a 100-plus heat wave, so I can relate. The nudist resort added another dimension - it's certainly one way to beat the heat!

It has been SO hot here (and my one-zone air conditioning doesn't work well for someone who has to work on the second floor). I've spent a lot of time wishing I was naked lately, but there are too many kids running around this house, including some that are not my own.

I liked this, and as someone living where it was 100-101 this weekend, I feel it too!

As a fair-skinned person, "heat" and "nudist resort" collide to remind me that the sun is my enemy in every circumstance, and I have a hard time remembering that isn't true for everyone.

Congratulations on getting married!

You're such a good performer! I always try to listen to you read your poems when I have time.

I really liked this. The it's a dry heat thing - We were in AZ last year at this time and it was brutal, dry heat or not. 104 is too much for me. We have talked about going to a nudist resort but I am never sure how I would actually feel about that.

Heh, anyone who lives in a humid climate WILL claim that 100F in dry heat is different from trying to breathe heavy, swampy, hot air. It is different, but, as your poem states, 100 is 100. I'd be afraid of sunburning my always covered bits but I wonder if I could reach the "fuck it" conclusion your speaker reaches. I honestly don't know.

A playful description of an unique experience. It's probably a place that will give you many writing ideas? ;)

I enjoyed this.

I liked this - I'm reminded of the time my husband and I felt adventurous and went to a nude beach. :) Also, ugh, the heat! I like the cold more because you can always bundle up more, but you can only take off so much when it's hot out!
