aging

Have you heard about Mosquito Ringtones (apparently this is not in fact new, just new to me)? as we age we naturally lose the ability to hear certain pitches. kids are using these as ringtones so teachers (or parents) can't hear the ring.

http://www.freemosquitoringtones.org/ ian can hear some i can't. pillar seems to be able to hear more than either of us and wasn't particularly thrilled.

it's kinda creepy.

I haven't heard of high pitched ring tones before, but I have heard of shopkeepers setting up high pitched tones to keep kids from loitering outside their stores.

now kids are using them on their cell phones so teachers and parents can't hear them it seems.

ian and i were just talking about using them to annoying kids into leaving.

Makes sense. If I were a kid, I'd probably do the same.

I've used an audio editing program to generate pure tones (sine waves) to crudely test my hearing and I can't hear anything above about 13 KHz.

I know my computer speakers work above that range 'cause it drives Ozzi and Ziggy out of the room. :)
